The objective of this report is to observe and interpret the effects of mining materials such as gold and sulfides on surrounding vegetation. To accomplish this McLaughlin Mine, located northeast of Sacramento, CA was utilized. AVIRIS flight paths from June of 1997 and 2016 were downloaded and manipulated in the software ENVI. The hyperspectral data makes it possible to view the red-edge slopes of the vegetation in both time periods, providing insight to any significant changes in health quality of the vegetation. Using ENVI classic, it is possible to create a change detection map, highlighting any change in abundance of vegetation in the 19 year period.
